About

Philip Venables’ opera, 4:48 PSYCHOSIS, is an adaptation of Sarah Kane's iconic play of the same name. The play was first performed in 2000, shortly after Kane's death, and is a powerful, dark and at times humorous portrait of depression. Philip's opera reimagines the play for six female singers and a chamber ensemble, who are integrated into the action of the production directed by Ted Huffman.

4:48 PSYCHOSIS received its premiere in an award-winning Royal Opera House production presented at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2016. Elayce joined Ted as Assistant Director for the production's first revival in 2018, also at the Lyric Hammersmith. She was then the Revival Director when 4:48 PSYCHOSIS played at Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg in 2019.
